Donation To Buy Equipment For Local A.L.S. Patients
Buzzards Bay, MA: On Wednesday, January 4, 2006, the A.L.S. Family Charitable Foundation, Inc. a local non-profit dedicated to raising funds for patients and their families living with Lou Gehrig’s Disease, made a sizable contribution towards the purchase of equipment for patients and their caregivers.
The grant is part of a collaborative initiative called The A.L.S. Family Charitable Foundation Equipment Program. The donation was given to Compassionate Care ALS/Gordon T. Heald ALS Fund, a Falmouth, MA-based organization dedicated to making life easier for both patients living with Lou Gehrig’s Disease and their caregivers.
The A.L.S. Family Charitable Foundation, Inc. raises money with various fundraising events in the Cape Cod area throughout the year. Significant portions of the Foundation’s proceeds are also earmarked for scientific research towards finding a cure and treatment options.
Ron Hoffman, Founder and Executive Director of Compassionate Care ALS/Gordon T. Heald ALS Fund, is a former caregiver and will use donated funds to purchase equipment and ramps for patient’s homes, enabling them to remain at home with their families. Over 75 families in Massachusetts are currently benefiting from this service.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (A.L.S.), affecting over 30,000 Americans, is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that is characterized by a deterioration of motor nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
